Welcome to Winneconne Middle School! My name is Carly Horvath, and Winneconne has been my home for the past 12 years—nine as an Art teacher across our elementary, middle, and high schools, followed by three years as the Middle School Dean of Students. I am thrilled to serve as your principal, and I look forward to partnering with our families, staff, and community to shape a bright future for our students.
At Winneconne Middle School, our mission centers on the district motto: “Learning Today, and Leading Tomorrow.” We hold a proud tradition of academic excellence, which is clearly reflected in our latest 2024-25 DPI school report card. WMS achieved an overall score of 94.9, earning the highest possible rating of "Significantly Exceeds Expectations". Our school achieved an outstanding 93.0 in Student Achievement and a 94.5 in Student Growth. Notably, our students achieved a perfect 100.0 score in Target Group Outcomes, placing us at the very top of the state for supporting and growing our learners.
These remarkable results reflect the dedication of our wonderful teachers and support staff, who ground their instructional practices in clear learning targets and data. During common planning time, our academic teams continuously analyze data to challenge our students and ensure high levels of achievement.
The middle school years represent an important, dynamic transition, providing opportunities to explore many different interests while expanding skills and discovering personal strengths. Our 7-period day balances core subjects with physical education and high-interest encore courses, giving students room to explore new talents. We support this modern learning environment as a 1:1 technology school, providing every student with their own Chromebook for the year.
Beyond academics, we focus on character. We ask our entire school community to live out "The Winneconne Way" by acting responsibly, practicing kindness, and showing respect to one another. Together with our parents and community partners, we embrace the many opportunities to learn, teach, and appreciate the unique gifts that we can offer to one another.
